Software for Photographers
 |
ACDSee Photo Manager: Makes variable thumbnails,
manages thousands of images, batch modification, fix common
photo problems like red eye, create slide shows and screen
savers, and copy photos easily to CD or DVD.

 |
ProShow Producer by Photodex: A HIGH END slide
show/presentation creator. This is, bar none, the best and most
powerful presentation software we've ever seen.

 |
MicroGraphx Picture Publisher: The easiest,
most intuitive photo program ever, and it's really cheap. Only
problem is Corel bought it up, and then discontinued it.
However, you can find the free trial version online, you can buy
an older version (that does NOT work with Win XP), and you can
find a new version that works with WinXP but at the same price
as Photoshop.

 |
Adobe Photoshop: This is the industry
standard. It's also the most non-intuitive photo program I've
ever used. It requires hours and hours of learning to use it
anywhere near its capacity. |

Video Editing Software
 |
Windows Movie Maker. Not gonna believe this, but it's
one of the easiest video editors in the world, it's free, and
has just a few minor drawbacks. |
|
Pinnacle Studio 11. I've been using it for years;
it's easy to learn, easy to use, has some fabulous features. Had
some problems with version 10, but just had to wait for this
version to come out. |
 |
TMPGEnc MPEG Editor 2.0 Premium. This is
one powerful, easy to use, and inexpensive basic MPEG editor.

|
Avid Liquid. This is the closest program to
a full blown professional video editor. Avid is the company that
makes video editing software for Hollywood. If you can't afford
to spend half a million dollars or so, but want your work to
look as professional as possible, this is your best bet. In its
class, it's the easiest to use too. |
 |
Adobe Premier Pro. One very powerful video
editing software package. But like all of Adobe products, it's
expensive and hard to learn. If you have a lot of patience and a
lot of time on your hands, and a thousand bux to blow on this,
then hey, it's your baby. |
DVD Creation Software
 |
DVDit Pro by Sonic. This is a medium end DVD creator.
For the home video enthusiast, this has everything you'll ever
need.

Roxio Creator. A low end CD/DVD creator for with lots
and lots of features. |

Over the years I've
received many, many
letters asking me about
the software I use
in my photography.
My background in
software development,
and now in photog-
raphy has allowed me
to test many fine
products, and yes,
a few dogs.
Here in this section
you will find my re-
views of all the soft-
ware I've used.
Many of the programs
I'm using were sent to
me specifically to re-
view.
We thank those
companies that have
sent us review copies
for their generosity,
and we thank our
readers for suggesting
various software
packages.
